Work experience
My ExperienceI wouldn't really say I enjoyed work experience, as it wasn't my desired choice to work in a Charity Shop. After hunting high and low for a respectable photography shop -(or a photo/art related shop) near me, non of which chose to have me for 2 weeks as there was nothing for me to do or the manager was too rude to even reply to my e-mails and hang up the phone mid-conversation. I found myself in a sticky situation with the dead-line to my slip having to be handed in two days - I decided to ask in a Charity Shop (Cancer Research to be exact) who accepted me.
During Work Experience I discovered what a waste of time it is to be there. I agree, yes, it's preparing us for the outside world but most of the time they had nothing for me to do (particularly on Fridays) due to safety and heavy objects. Besides, I thought that it was a silly idea to do it in year 10 anyway, seeing as we have alot of revision to be doing and stacks of homework. Saying this; some aspects of working in a Charity Shop wasn't all that bad. The ladies that I was working with and helping out were incredibly lovely to talk to. I didn't feel at all like a child when talking to them. Non of them treated me differently, offering to make me tea and give me biscuits. |
Here are some pictures I have taken:Since working in Cancer Research I have been thinking about the possibility of becoming a volunteer as my Granma is currently suffering with cancer and under going chemo-therapy. Seeing the amount of help that the Charity shop is giving to support cancer has really made me think that I should too.
It would also be good on my CV. |
